Dog Tapes

Open for submissions

Dog Tapes is a small, quiet lofi label built on one of the least pretentious brand ideas in the whole scene: beats for dogs. The name is not a metaphor for anything deeper, and that is exactly the point. Their most visible playlist is literally called Lofi Beats for Dogs, and the whole brand sits in that register, unhurried, affectionate, a little goofy, made for a room where nobody is trying to impress anybody. Publicly it describes itself simply as a LoFi Hip Hop label, and it has been running since around 2020.

The sound lives in boom bap lofi, the older, dustier corner of the genre. Think swung drums, chopped samples, the drunken offbeat feel that boom bap has carried since the early nineties, but softened and slowed for background listening rather than for rapping over. The label's playlist world backs this up: alongside Lofi Beats for Dogs there are collections like lofi city, coffee beats, and broken heart beats, which tells you the emotional spread runs from warm and everyday to genuinely melancholic. This is not clean, glossy study-beat lofi. It leans a bit rougher and more sample-forward.
